| who is FoodPower™?
FoodPower Founder Phyllis Ann Marshall has more than 40 years’ experience
as a chef, restaurateur, consultant and coach in the restaurant industry.
And she is unequivocally energized by the Power of Food.
Ms. Marshall graduated from Cornell University and studied at La Varenne
Ecole de Cuisine in Paris, and le Cordon Bleu in London. She has cooked
in kitchens in Hong Kong, Madrid, Florence, Nice, and all over the United
States. Prior to co-founding and operating the award-winning Mr. Stox in
Anaheim, California, Ms. Marshall founded her own culinary academy in San
Marino, California. There is not a cuisine she has not cooked, and few
countries’ food she has not tasted.
Ms. Marshall founded the Restaurant Management Certificate Program at
the University of California, Irvine, and lectures at UCLA as well as the
University at ICSC [International Council of Shopping Centers]. She is
a contributing editor to several publications on the topics of restaurants,
food trends, and business operations.
One of the single most influential stages of Marshall’s life was
her time spent with Julia Child. She was so impressed with Julia's
passion, talent, and sense of humor, Marshall sought out Child’s
former instructor, Simone “Simca” Beck
for instruction. She assisted Child on occasion before founding her own previously
mentioned culinary academy. Other chefs she has cooked with include Wolfgang
Puck, Juliano Buglialli, and Jacques Pepin.
As a coach and consultant, Marshall has worked with many of the country’s
best-known and respected restaurant consulting groups -- including Rory
Fatt, Bill Main and Bill Marvin – and continues to team with them.
Her clients include independent restaurateurs, corporate restaurant groups,
regional shopping centers, franchises, and more. Her clients are located
all over the United States, with a significant following in Southern California.
Some of these clients include David Stockman of Lawry’s Restaurant
Inc. [Five Crowns, Lawry’s Prime Rib, Tam O’Shanter]; John
and Marc Ghoukassian of Bistango and Bayside restaurants; Zov and Armen
Karamardian of Zov’s Bistro & Bakery; Congressman Alan Mollohan
of the Ramada Inn & Conference Center, West Virginia; Margaret deBeixedon
of the University Club, Pasadena; and Nancy Feightner at The Irvine Spectrum.
Ms. Marshall has had dozens of professional commendations, including membership
in the exclusive FCSI [Food Service Consultants Society International]
as well as the Pacesetter Award as Entrepreneur of the Year.
